Some of the events I suggest for you may be very challenging: that is
why we train so hard (remember the Swim for Haiti? Let it fuel you!)
All of your coaches are very pleased with your fitness and technique
work this year. If I suggest an event for you, it is because I believe
in your ability to succeed. Ultimately your event choices belong to
you, nothing is non-negotiable (for most of you, heh-heh.) But please
don’t use the word ‘can’t’ in our discussions. (Unless it is something
like ‘I can’t believe how great these events are, I am so excited
about this’.)
Comments like ‘I am not fast’ or ‘I don’t think I can make a
difference’ will be ignored. Each one of you who makes an effort will
contribute – we saw it in last year’s results, with event champions
from all 5 lanes of our pool! You don’t need to win: all those 5th,
6th, 7th and 8th place points really add up. (And don’t underestimate
the power of having more relays than anyone else.)
1.The events are listed here by stroke, not in the order they will be
swum. The event order is listed separately in attachment number 2.
2.To make it easier to know which line belongs to which swimmer, I
alternated one line of ‘y’s and one line of ‘o’s to indicate that I am
suggesting you swim the event. They mean the same thing (yes-oui!)
3.If there are more than 7 individual events checked off, I am
indicating your best chances for scoring points. You need to narrow it
down to 7 (or let me know and I will do it for you.)
4.If there are less than 7 individual events checked off, the other
events are equal in terms of point value – plan to max-out at 7
events, and pick the others you like best (that are preferably not
immediately before or after the ones I picked for you.)
5.You should assume you are swimming relays if you will be present. If
you are swimming the 200 fly, I will not make you swim the fly in the
medley relay that follows (you will do another stroke) unless you ask
me to put you in it. The same may apply to those of you in the 400 IM.
6.If I did not put you down for the 200 fly or the 400 IM and you want
to swim it, please let me know. Hello, check-off challenge!
7.If you see the 400, 800 or 1500 free checked off and you consider
yourself a sprinter, do not panic. First of all this is a great way
for us to accumulate points (if you liked being a member of the
reigning provincial champion team, get used to the idea that you are
swimming the event.) Secondly, it is a great way to help your body
recover at a meet with NO cool-down pool. Swimming a distance event
nice and easy will help your body get ready for the next day of
racing.
8.If you do not find your name I was told by you or someone else that
you are not coming. If you can make it, we want you there, so please
tell me ASAP!!
9.Every practice counts from here until provincials. Every turn counts
– make every one legal!
10.THIS IS ALL FOR FUN*, SO NO WORRIES!
Circle the events you agree with on the board (or email me if you
don’t see me at Westmount or Downtown Y pools. Negotiations end
Tuesday March 29. Keep pushing your limits,
Robyn
