REMINDER/RAPPEL: CHAMPIONSHIP SUMMER PARTY – SVP inscrivez-vous au babillard

CHAMPIONSHIP PARTY – COME CELEBRATE – PARTY DE CHAMPIONNAT – NOUS VOUS ATTENDONS!

RAPPEL – REMINDER PARTY DE NOEL – CHRISTMAS! PARTY!

Yes Santa will be dropping by at our  CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY PARTY. Christine Cardinal has graciously accepted to open her home and hearts to us for our traditional holiday party that will take place on Friday, December   5th, at 6:30 p.m. at 633 Murray Hill (just a 5 minute walk from the Y above Sherbrooke).
As usual, it will be a  “pot lock” and we would ask that everyone contribute in terms of food and beverage (BYO, wine, beer, etc…).
Christine has extended her invitation to the “better halves” of the swimmers as well, so bring your spouses or your significant other.   Christine’s husband will be there and with a little coaxing,  he  will sing Christmas carols on the piano for us and there will be a microphone for those courageous enough who want to sing along!
A list will be posted, so please sign up and indicate what you would like to bring based on the selections on the list.   Please arrange to have it in a dish that can be put on the table with the necessary utensils.

Come join us in what will assuredly be a memorable event!

À bientôt!

Hello Masters Swimmers;

First of all congratulations to all those who participated at the Contre Courant race last weekend at Centre Claude Robillard. It was a lot of fun and there were some really good success stories, especially in the long distance swimming races.

SWIMMING COMPETITION:
Do not forget to register for the next race at Montreal North taking place on December 9th, time is running out.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Board of Directors met last week and we would like to share with you some of the information. We have 115 master swimmers registered with the team, consisting of 57 recreational, 34 competing and 18 triathlon swimmers.
The most popular time to swim is the early morning practice with 49 registered swimmers.

SHOWER, SHOWER WITH SOAP!!! :
The YMCA is continuing to address the air and water quality of the pool as this continues to be a recurring problem.
We would appreciate your observations on this point.
One way for all of us to improve the air and water quality is to take a shower with soap just before entering the water. With the high pool use, the amount of body stuff such as lint, dead skin and perspiration negatively impacts the water thereby overloading the filters and creating a residue known as chloramines which rises to the air with the increased level of activity thereby also impacting the air quality. This has been confirmed to the team by Joe Schwarcz, Director of the McGill Office for Chemistry and Society who states: “Chloramines form from amino acids that are shed from the skin … and from pee in the water.”
Taking a shower is better for your overall swimming well-being. It is not merely a suggestion but is a mandatory requirement before going into the water, and it will, therefore, be more strictly applied going forward. We are counting on everyone’s cooperation in this regard.

WOMEN’S LOCKER ROOM:
We were advised that the entire women’s locker room will be completely renovated including new lockers sometime in the next year.

XMAS PARTY – HELP!!!:
Our swim team party is Friday Dec. 14th.
Do we have any volunteers? Everyone knows it is so much fun for us to get together, everyone cleans up (we will even pay for the services of a cleaning person if requested) and the host gets to keep a lot of the goodies that everyone brings on a pot luck basis. The host gets to chose the date. Please let me know as soon as possible if one of you are prepared to open your home and heart to keep this tradition going.

XMAS TRAINING CAMP:
We would like to know if there would be sufficient demand to create such a camp during the holiday period as was the case last year. If you are interested in attending such a camp between Christmas and New Year, please let me know.

Team Summer Party And Awards

It is that time of the year where we socialize and recap our experiences for the year. So please come to the Summer Party on Monday, June 18th, at 6:30 p.m.

Yvan David has generously offered to host the party at his home situated at 4321 Girouard, corner Monkland (next to the Au Premier salon).

As usual, we will proceed on a “pot luck” basis and ask that everyone contribute towards the food and drinks, preferably finger food so that utensils will not be required.

As well, our annual team awards will be handed out (please take note of the next item).

We hope that everyone will make it so please reserve this date on your agenda.

Vote For Swimmer of the Year

A new part of this year’s Summer Party and Awards is the Swimmer of the Year Award.

Please take a moment to consider your choice for the Swimmer’s Choice Award for Swimmer of the Year.

Swimmer of the Year can be a swimmer from our team that made a particular impression on you or added something special to the team; someone who swam their heart out in practices or competitions and gave it their all or simply revealed themselves as a shinning star in the pool and on deck.

Basically, one of your fellow swimmers who you think is deserving of the title “The Swimmer of the Year” Please consider the “year” is from September 2006 to present.

All members of the team are eligible, Recreational or Competitive.

Voting ends on June 15th in order to be tabulated in time for our team BBQ June 18th. Unlike practices, this is a democracy, please vote! Email your choice to navydivad1 AT hotmail com
